Should You Get Insurance for Your HPSP Rental?
Posted by Matt P on
Laptops and tablets are an expensive investment. Fortunately for HPSP students, the military will reimburse you for yours if you lease it. For information about how that process works check out our in-depth look at renting.
But should you pay a little extra for laptop coverage, or bet that nothing goes wrong? What if something breaks, or you spill coffee on your device? At Military PC Rentals we offer optional laptop coverage plans for each device.
Here are some questions you should ask before purchasing a coverage plan is right for you.
What are the cost tradeoffs?
Depending on the device you are renting, coverage will cost $60.00 to $120.00 per year. This cost is not reimbursed by the military. But, replacing your device could be more expensive if you do not have coverage. If you start leasing at the beginning of your time as an HPSP student you may want to consider using some of your stipend money to go toward a coverage plan.
Are you a careful person?
Some of us are a little clumsy. Have had that heart-stopping moment when you bump your drink and watch it spill all over your keyboard? Sometimes, people just drop things a lot. Be honest, know yourself. If this is you, it may be worth considering a coverage plan.
Are you taking proactive steps to protect your device?
Laptops and tablets get taken everywhere. Some people just throw their laptop or tablet into their backpack with their textbooks. The chances of damaging your device go way down if you invest in things like a screen protector, case, or dedicated laptop bag. Investing a few dollars now could save you hundreds later. If you are not interested in a case or separate bag, considering a coverage plan would be wise.
Is the extra peace of mind valuable for you?
Some people just don’t want to have to worry about repairing their laptop. Students in medical and dental school have to study, attend class, go to rotations, and take care of life tasks. Computers are like your car. When they work properly you don’t think about them, but when they break down it’s extremely inconvenient. Fixing it becomes the top priority.
The bottom line is that there is a lot to consider regarding insurance and coverage plans for your device. By knowing yourself, your tendencies, and your situation, you will arrive at the best decision for you.
